I did not and my kids did not. Why? First off Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is a scary title for a kids movie. Second, I get the creeps when I see that haunted guy with a smashed nose on all the movie pictures. As a teacher, I read the first two books, then part of the third book and I stopped reading the series. Why? The books are dark. The first two are designed to bait you into the series and the starting in book three the forces of evil begin to hook you with witchcraft. Harry Potter is witchcraft, yet young kids are reading it all over the world. What happens when you read witchcraft? Well, it has "side effects." Let's just say that you open yourself up spiritually to things that you were previously protected from. I was reading about the side affects of participating in Witchcraft and one of them was "seizures." Believe it or not, one of my very young family members who loves Harry Potter started having seizures. I know too many parents who are very casual with Harry Potter, even spiritual people, who need to know that Witchcraft is against what God teaches.

" There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or daughter pass though the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For whoever does these things is detestable to the Lord." She was amazing. She has twin girls and we traded off watching kids, had playdates and lots of fun. I had no idea what mommy loneliness was. Then we kind of grew apart.
Then came loneliness. And oh it was lonley. I prayed and prayed "God please bring me a good friend." After a year of praying, God answered my prayers. I met a few friends from my children's mother's day out and my best friend from college moved a few miles down the street from me.
About six months later, we found out God was leading us to MOVE away!
And although I was very excited, my going away dinner was very hard for me to stomach. I had to leave my girlfriends.
So here I am in Connecticut, praying for a friend. A girlfriend. One to call when life is nuts to laugh about the day. One to randomly plan sporadic playdates. It's been almost a year and my prayer is still in the making.
I know one thing, I will be so thankful for this future friend when she comes along!

Sweet Sayings Of A Child!

My two year old is on his own verbal path in his own time. They were taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital. They think Dave is going to be okay but they are running tests on him. He wants you to go there right away." In total shock, I stammered "OKAY, I'll be right there." I was able to call the hospital and talk with my husband. He said a lady ran a stop sign off of the highway and in an instant, two cars plowed into his driver side door. He told me that he was having x-rays and tests run. I called my in-laws and had my father-in-law come over to watch the kids. My mother-in-law and I jumped straight into the car for the 50 minute drive to the hospital/24 hour clinic where my husband was admitted.

My husband seems to be in decent condition, Praise the Lord, considering what happened. The car was totaled and his door would have been crushed but it was held up by a steel frame right where he was sitting. The frame, the air bag and God's goodness, saved his life. (We highly recommend getting a Volvo if you are concerned about safety!)

The Totaled Car

In this accident we were Praising God for airbags!

We are so thankful that my husband is alive! God has been doing a lot in our lives and I was wishing I had a close girlfriend here to share things with. (My husband has been getting an earful, but it usually comes with a massage so he sure doesn't mind!)
I was feeling very without close girlfriends today and I was praying that God would provide one while we were at our little beach by the lake. I felt God's comfort that in time, He would provide and meet this need for me. In the mean time, two jets few by and in the beautiful sky was a huge white cross! It was just the mom hug that I needed to get me through the day!
Have you had a mom hug moment from God recently? I was thinking a few months ago, if there was one thing that I could do for my children, one thing that I could pass on to them, what would that one thing be?
I came to the conclusion that the most important thing would be to have a daily devotional and prayer time with my children to get them into the beautiful habit of spending time with God. I went out and bought a children's Bible for my four year old. We started reading a Bible story and praying together every morning. It's our special thing that we do because "baby brother" is just a little too young. My four year old son LOVES it! He loves spending time with God, praying and hanging out with me for our special time. I have to say it has been a huge blessing to me as well! We have even seen the power of prayer already through our special time together!

Must Have BBW Product: Fekkai Glossing Cream

I went into Bath and Body Works about a month ago and they let me try their Fekkai Glossing Cream. The book shows the five love languages: 1. Acts of service 2. Words of Affirmation 3. Quality time 4. Giving gifts 5. Physical touch. It can help you realize that you may tend to give your spouse the language you speak when in fact they may need something different. My love language is very different than my husbands.
This is a revelation that I had recently, my heart speaks through words of affirmation (or say French) and my husband's speaks through acts of service (or say German). I am dying for him to learn French but I now realize that I can at the same time, learn a little German. It has really helped me be thankful for some great things he does for me that I may take for granted, like taking out the trash or making dinner. Think of two things you can be thankful for that your husband does for you!

Tickle Me Tuesday

Mom Hug is a blog for moms to take a break and get a daily hug.

I thought this would be a great time to introduce Tickle Me Tuesday.
Today's Tickle Me Tuesday is The Pee Pee TeePee! Pick up the nearest book (of at least 123 pages).
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. Tag five people.

The book that was closest to me (besides a few coupon books that only had 45 pages) was the Bible. I am supposed to go to a certain page but I am officially breaking the rules. Because if I am going to tell you something from the Bible it is going to be what I am learning right now. AND, I have a story to share!

My father-in-law was praying about where we should live when we move to the North East. He is actually helping us buy the house. (Did I tell you my In-Law's were awesome? Because they are!) So, out of the two houses we are looking at, one town is named Columbia and the other town is named Hebron. The house we really want to live in is in Hebron (House #3) but we do like both houses and we want to live in the place that we feel God wants us to live.

So, my Father-In-Law was praying and he opened his Bible. He started reading and he read this passage:

2 Samuel 2: Then it came about afterwards that David inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I go up to one of the cities of Judah?" And the LORD said to him, "Go up " So David said, "Where shall I go up?" And He said, "To Hebron."

Now I believe that the Bible is relevant to our modern lives but this was SERIOUSLY relevant and in a neat way. My husband's name just happens to be David and we were praying about moving to Hebron! We were thrilled to hear this story because we feel that it is a special way that God affirmed that we are taking a step in the direction. I love the way God has shared this with us. Only He could take a book and make it that relevant over 2000 years later.

Now I must share that the first words out of my husband's mouth after hearing that story were "Oh WOW, I'm a King!" To which my Father-in-law said, "Yes and that would make Lori a Queen!" (See I told you my In-Laws were Awesome!) I think I could handle being the queen of House #3 in Hebron! So now we continue to pray that our houses sell here in Texas!

I am going to tag Lizla, Carleigh, Heather, Nikki and Hannah.

Emotions, do you let them get to you?

I was at Half Price Books , my favorite date spot with hubs, the other day and picked up another book my Jordan Rubin, the author of The Makers Diet. I skimmed the table of contents and immediately went to a chapter that I felt I needed to hear. The book is called The Great Physicians RX for Women's Health, and the chapter I knew I needed to read was called Avoid Deadly Emotions. Rubin's wife wrote this book with him so it has some insight from a ladies perspective.
It seems like ever since I gave birth to my firstborn, my emotions have learned to unleash themselves. One small possible offensive comment from someone and I am just as emotional as a mother hen ready to protect her coup! I was just asking hubs the other day if someone could just please explain all these emotions to me!
The first topic mentioned is PMS and Starbucks. Apparently they go hand in hand. When we are in the state of PMS, we love to treat ourselves, usually with a caffeinated beverage. Well it might temporarily aid us in our sanity, but the caffeine combined with sugar rush of the the fat in it will eventually wear off. When it does, LOOK OUT! Nikki explains that it makes a normal woman very irritable. As I read on I thought, I had coffee three days this week, one of which was today. The other two days, I got in an argument with hubs on both days!
The other three days this week were fine and everything went smooth. And I'm not even PMSing. Hummm. I'll make an extra effort not to get in an argument tonight and I should probably warn hubs too. I'll also go back to giving up coffee to avoid some crazy emotions that I don't care to deal with.
I also got these nutrition details for a Tall Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha at Starbucks.

Calories
Do you crave sugars? There is a reason your body craves sugars and there is even something you can do about it that will help you stop craving them. After having my second baby my body craved sugars to an insane degree. I could have just eaten a full steak and would still be craving cookies. My friend Donna gave me the following advise which I want to share with you. If you crave sugar, It's most likely an imbalance in your body, the out-of-control candida in your digestive tract is begging for food. If you put good bacteria in there to balance it out, the good bacteria will again begin to take control. Probiotics help restore the system in your gut and then you won't crave sugar.
You can take a probiotic in the form of a pill. Garden of Life has a good probiotic called Primal Defense. I picked up a Glen Oaks Probiotic smoothie at the grocery store. My sugar cravings went away the second day after I drank the smoothie.
I am reading the book The Makers Diet, which the author shares that God intended for us to eat food just as he made it. I think there are a lot of things God wants us to know about what we eat.

What are some things you have learned lately.

Every Mom Deserves A HUG!

I have spoken with too many moms lately who have told me that they are basically in a Pit. They have shared that they think they are not doing a good enough job as a mom, that they just feel disconnected with others and without many friends. They feel like when their first or second child came, a small depression has hit them and they have never been able to jump out.
As Moms, we do many things that go unnoticed at times, we deal with the disgusting and outright dirty jobs. We clean up POOP for goodness sakes!
There are two things that I want you to remember during these hard times. 1) You have the most important job in the world! Being a mom is the most honorable job you can have in life. 2) The hard part is only for a season. As your children get older and more independent, being a mom will get easier. You will really start to really love all the amazing parts of mommyhood (if you have not already). Yes you have the teenage years ahead, but the days of cleaning poop are soon over. So make sure you CHERISH EVERY MOMENT.
God thinks you are beautiful, successful and loves you more than you can ever imagine. He wants you to feel this way too! The purpose of this blog is to give every mom a daily hug!
